A team of academics from Oxford Brookes’ Centre for Diversity Policy Research and Practice have conducted a study of representation of women in spin-outs, from founding, to board representation, CEO and other leadership positions, and other factors.
Lead by Normal Jarboe OBE and Professor Simonetta Manfredi, the research revealed that women are very underrepresented in all positions and that boards of spin-outs rarely have a good gender balance.
The next steps in the research are to identify interventions that might support women in commercialisation of research and to identify barriers. Role models can play an important part in this. Michele spoke at their launch event in Oxford in March.
